A starter (also known as a cranking motor or a starter motor) is a device used to rotate/crank an internalcombustion engine so as to initiate the engine's operation under its own power. During ignition, the solenoid engages a lever that pushes out the drive pinion on the starter driveshaft and meshes the pinion with the starter ring gear on the flywheel of the engine. At our starter factory in Malaysia, we prioritize the precision manufacturing of these components to ensure reliable engine ignition. Once the engine starts, the ignition process ceases, and a spring in the solenoid assembly retracts the pinion gear from the ring gear, halting the starter motor.

Parts of starter

These are the major components of a starter and their functions. Each component plays a vital role in initiating the engine’s combustion process by cranking the engine and ensuring a smooth starting experience. In our starter factory in Malaysia, we specialize in the meticulous manufacturing of these components to uphold high standards of quality and reliability in every engine ignition.

Armature

The armature is the rotating component of the starter motor.

Field Coils

The field coils are wound around the starter motor's armature and their magnetic field interacts with the armature's windings, causing the later to rotate when the starter motor is activated.

Commutator

The commutator allows the electrical current to flow through the armature windings and generate the necessary magnetic field.

Brushes

The brushes transfer electrical current from the battery to the armature windings via the commutator, enabling the generation of the magnetic field.

Solenoid Switch

The solenoid acts as an electromagnetic switch that engages and disengages the starter motor with the engine's flywheel.

Drive Pinion/ Gear

The drive pinion engages with the teeth on the flywheel or flexplate to turn the engine.

Bendix Assembly

The Bendix assembly prevents the starter motor from continuing to spin once the engine has started, reducing wear on the starter and flywheel.

Housing and Mounting

The housing serves as a mounting point for the starter motor, allowing it to be securely attached to the engine block or transmission housing.
